Around 100 Russian soldiers attempted to escape from their military unit in Krasnodar, demonstrating the increasing desperation among troops sent to fight in Ukraine. The soldiers, disillusioned by their dire conditions, tried to break free by bursting through a fence and running toward the military commandant’s office. The fate of those who managed to escape remains unclear, but the streets were quickly blocked off and vehicles were searched as Russian authorities scrambled to contain the situation.
Reports from the frontlines reveal a shocking level of brutality within the Russian military. Commanders have been known to tie soldiers to trees as punishment for even the smallest infractions, with some soldiers left exposed for days at a time to be killed by Ukrainian drones. This practice, referred to as “sacrificing to Baba Yaga,” has become one of the most chilling symbols of the horrific treatment Russian soldiers face under the command of their leaders.
One such case involved Russian platoon commander Andre Elisayenko, who was tied to a tree for hours after complaining about the lack of equipment. Others have faced similarly inhumane treatment, with soldiers being tied to trees and beaten, or even sent to their deaths in futile assaults, all while being forced to endure severe punishment for minor complaints.
In another brutal example, private Gennady Kiskarov was tied to a tree for requesting reassignment after serving a year on the frontlines in Donetsk. After enduring this humiliation, he eventually agreed to return to the frontlines rather than endure more punishment.
In the midst of this chaos, Russian commanders have also been increasingly using motorcycles on the battlefield, a tactic that has been widely criticised by military experts. The motorcycles, which offer no protection to the riders, are proving to be ineffective and have resulted in several destroyed bikes and casualties among Russian soldiers.
