In the lead up to Easter, the price of chicken eggs in Ukraine has fallen for the first time since early February, according to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy. Over the last two weeks, egg prices have dropped by 5.2 percent, falling from ₴60.85 to ₴57.68 per dozen of non-packaged category C1 eggs. That is a reduction from approximately £1.23 to around £1.17 per dozen.
Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food, Vitaliy Koval, stated that there is currently no shortage of chicken eggs in the domestic market, with production levels meeting consumer demand. He explained that the price decrease is the result of normal market factors such as seasonal demand and changes in production costs like feed, energy and transportation.
Koval noted that egg prices are known to fluctuate depending on the season, and this recent drop reflects a balanced market where supply has caught up with demand. The ministry continues to monitor the situation closely to maintain fair conditions for both producers and consumers.
Egg production has also risen significantly. In March 2025, Ukraine produced 962 million eggs, a notable increase from 784 million in January and 787 million in February. This surge in supply has helped ease prices.
Below is a breakdown of egg price movements in recent weeks:
Date | Price per dozen (₴) | Approx. price per dozen (£) | Change |
---|---|---|---|
28 March | ₴60.85 | £1.23 | – |
4 April | ₴60.44 | £1.22 | -0.7% |
11 April | ₴57.68 | £1.17 | -4.6% |
The ministry views the current price dynamics as a sign of a healthy, self-regulating market that benefits Ukrainian households ahead of a major holiday.
