EU Ambassadors Set to Discuss 5 Billion Euro Military Aid Package for Ukraine

European Union ambassadors are set to discuss a major new military aid package for Ukraine, valued at €5 billion. The discussions, scheduled for February 18 in Brussels, aim to provide Ukraine with artillery ammunition, air defence systems, long-range missiles, drones, and critical support for the restoration and training of Ukrainian army brigades.

The draft document outlining this new assistance plan indicates that the EU will focus on enhancing Ukraine’s defensive capabilities by supplying 1.5 million large-caliber artillery rounds. In addition, the plan includes providing advanced air defence systems and long-range precision missiles to bolster Ukraine’s ability to counter Russian airstrikes and missile attacks.

The aid package will also support Ukraine’s military infrastructure, including assistance in restoring army brigades, which will involve both equipment and training for Ukrainian forces. This marks the European Union’s continued commitment to strengthening Ukraine’s defence as the war with Russia persists.

Since the full-scale invasion by Russia in February 2022, the European Union has already provided Ukraine with over €134 billion in aid, which includes €48.5 billion for military purposes. This upcoming €5 billion package is part of the EU’s pledge to continue supporting Ukraine’s defence for as long as necessary, with further efforts aimed at strengthening the defence industry within Ukraine through collaborative initiatives between the EU and Ukrainian partners.
