Pro War Protesters in Moscow Reject Ceasefire as US Resumes Military Aid to Ukraine
Moscow residents have taken to the streets to express their opposition to a ceasefire in Ukraine, showing strong support for the continuation of Russia’s invasion. Some demonstrators insisted that Russia should not agree to any pause in hostilities, instead calling for the offensive to continue until what they described as “victory” is achieved. Others repeated Kremlin propaganda, labelling the Ukrainian army as “terrorists” and dismissing the idea of negotiations.
Kyiv indicated on Tuesday that it is open to a thirty day ceasefire, provided Moscow agrees to the conditions. This position was signalled following talks in Saudi Arabia that were backed by the United States. However, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov refused to take a clear position, stating that Russia needs to receive “detailed information” from Washington before making a decision.
Meanwhile, the United States has resumed military aid to Ukraine after briefly suspending it. The Trump administration halted weapons deliveries and intelligence sharing in what was widely seen as an attempt to pressure Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy into entering negotiations with Russia. This decision came shortly after a tense meeting between Zelenskyy and Donald Trump at the White House, where the two leaders clashed over the ongoing war.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who led the US delegation to negotiations in Jeddah, confirmed that Washington will present the ceasefire proposal to Russia. However, the Kremlin has previously refused to consider any temporary truce unless Ukraine accepts Moscow’s terms, which would mean conceding occupied territories.
The return of US military support is expected to bolster Ukraine’s ability to defend itself against continued Russian aggression. With Moscow still unwilling to engage in meaningful negotiations and pro war sentiment growing inside Russia, prospects for a lasting peace remain uncertain.
