Italian Defence Minister Guido Crozetto has stated that there is no simple solution to Russia’s war on Ukraine and that continued military support for Kyiv is essential to create the conditions for a ceasefire.
During a Senate hearing, Italian Defence Minister Guido Crozetto discussed the importance of ongoing military support for Ukraine in its struggle against Russian aggression. He emphasised that there is no immediate or easy resolution to the war and that continued assistance is crucial in creating the necessary conditions for a ceasefire.
Crozetto noted that Russia’s attacks on Ukraine have been escalating, with an increasing number of indiscriminate strikes targeting both military and civilian infrastructure. He stressed that despite these challenges, Italy remains committed to providing Ukraine with the support it needs to protect its sovereignty and to eventually bring the conflict to a close.
The Italian government has been deliberating on how best to continue assisting Ukraine, with a focus on providing both military and diplomatic support. Crozetto reiterated that the goal is to help create the right environment for diplomatic discussions, which could lead to a lasting peace in Ukraine.
Recently, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with Crozetto to discuss ways to strengthen military cooperation between Italy and Ukraine, including joint weapons production, military training, and security guarantees for Ukraine. These discussions reflect the deepening ties between the two countries in the face of Russia’s continued aggression.
