Kharkiv Suffers Missile Horror as Dozens Injured in Early Morning Strike

In the early hours of 18 April, Russian forces launched a missile attack on the eastern Ukrainian city of Kharkiv, injuring at least 54 people and leaving four in serious condition. The strike targeted a multi storey residential building in a densely populated area, causing severe damage and triggering a citywide emergency response.

According to official statements from Kharkiv Mayor Igor Terekhov and the Head of the Kharkiv Regional Administration Oleg Synegubov, the attack took place shortly after 5 a.m. local time. Terekhov confirmed that the strike was carried out using ballistic missiles fitted with cluster munitions, known for causing widespread civilian harm. He reported the number of injured at 54, while Synegubov provided updates on the hospitalised, stating that 13 individuals, including two children, were receiving medical care. Four of those are in serious condition.

Emergency services rushed to the scene to clear rubble and assist those trapped. Medics worked continuously to stabilise the wounded. In the aftermath, city authorities issued reassurances to the public and condemned the Kremlin’s repeated targeting of civilian infrastructure.

Kharkiv, located near the Russian border, has been one of the most frequently shelled Ukrainian cities since the beginning of the full scale invasion in February 2022. Despite repeated international calls to end attacks on civilian areas, Russia continues its brutal and indiscriminate bombardment campaign.

The Kharkiv attack came just hours after explosions were also reported in the northern city of Sumy, where Russian drones killed and injured several civilians. These back to back strikes form part of a broader Kremlin strategy of terror aimed at weakening Ukrainian morale.
