In the latest report from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Russian army has suffered significant losses over the past 24 hours, with 1,530 soldiers killed, 52 armored combat vehicles destroyed, and 149 vehicles damaged or destroyed. The total losses for Russia since the war began in February 2022 are now estimated at nearly 860,000 personnel.
The breakdown of the Russian Federation’s combat losses from February 24, 2022, to February 17, 2025, reveals staggering figures. As of today, Russia has lost approximately 859,920 soldiers, with 16 additional tanks and 52 armored combat vehicles destroyed in the most recent clashes. The total number of Russian tanks destroyed now stands at 10,089, and armored combat vehicles lost is 21,063. In addition, Russia has lost 23,222 artillery systems, 1,283 multiple-launch rocket systems (MLRS), and 1,067 air defense systems.
Russian aerial capabilities have been severely diminished, with 370 aircraft and 331 helicopters destroyed. Additionally, Ukraine has successfully taken down 25,505 Russian UAVs, a key component in the Kremlin’s efforts to conduct reconnaissance and strikes on Ukrainian positions.
Russia’s losses also include significant amounts of military hardware, with 37,605 motor vehicles and tank trucks destroyed, as well as 3,750 pieces of special equipment. The Russian military continues to face the overwhelming resilience and efficiency of Ukraine’s defense forces, which have successfully repelled and destroyed large numbers of Russian assets.
Over the previous day, Russian forces in the Kursk region were reportedly defeated during an assault, where a column of enemy vehicles displaying Soviet flags was destroyed. The night of February 17 also saw explosions in Russia’s Krasnodar region, with reports of drone attacks and a fire at the Ilya oil refinery. Russian defense claims that 90 drones and a Neptune-MD guided missile were neutralized by their air defence systems. Additionally, an agent of the ATES guerrilla movement successfully disabled the Russian invaders’ electronic warfare system.
