A Ukrainian drone successfully struck the 333rd Combat Training Centre of the Russian Federation in Mulino, Nizhny Novgorod region, injuring Russian soldiers and damaging an administrative building. The attack, which took place on 14 March, was first reported by ASTRA, confirming that at least two Russian soldiers had been wounded. A video of the strike later surfaced online, showing the impact on the military facility.
The targeted training centre is a key facility for Russian military preparation. Established in 2018, it integrates traditional combat training with modern digital warfare simulations. The site spans 34 by 27 kilometres and is equipped with tank ranges and various military training areas. It has the capacity to train 700 soldiers at a time and processes up to 30,000 personnel annually. The facility plays a significant role in preparing Russian forces for combat, particularly in areas involving missile operations, electronic warfare, and air defence.
Following the attack, Rosaviation temporarily suspended flight operations at Strigino Airport, located near the strike zone. However, Russian authorities have not officially commented on the incident.
Ukrainian military experts have noted the strategic importance of the Mulino base, with former head of Ukraine’s Foreign Intelligence Service, Mykola Malomuzh, stating that it serves as a hub for training key specialists in missile warfare, air defence, and infantry operations. He emphasised that disrupting the centre’s activities will slow Russia’s ability to train and deploy highly skilled personnel.
Malomuzh further explained that the facility plays a crucial role in preparing operators for Shahed drone attacks and missile strikes targeting Ukraine.
