A fire at an oil refinery in Tuapse, located in Russia’s Krasnodar region, has continued to burn for two days following a Ukrainian kamikaze drone strike. Efforts by firefighters to put out the blaze have been unsuccessful. The fire, which erupted on the night leading to 14 March, has spread over an area exceeding one thousand square metres.
The refinery is one of Russia’s largest and plays a crucial role in supplying fuel to the Black Sea Fleet. Footage taken by local residents shows thick black smoke rising from the facility, with emergency crews struggling to contain the flames. The extent of the damage and the full impact on fuel supplies remain unclear.
This is not the first time Ukrainian drone strikes have caused long lasting fires at Russian oil infrastructure. Several previous attacks on oil storage sites and refineries have led to days long blazes, resulting in considerable fuel losses. Ukraine has increasingly targeted Russian energy facilities in a strategy aimed at disrupting military logistics and reducing fuel availability for Russian forces.
