UK and Norway Pledge £450 Million in Weapons Aid for Ukraine

The United Kingdom and Norway have announced a joint military support package worth £450 million (approximately 580 million US dollars) to help supply Ukraine with drones, radar systems, and anti tank mines. The aid is intended to boost Ukraine’s defence capabilities as the country continues to resist Russian aggression. The initiative was made public ahead of a major defence meeting of Ukraine’s allies in Brussels, chaired by the UK and Germany.

According to the British Ministry of Defence, the financial commitment will be used to quickly deliver hundreds of thousands of drones, designed for both surveillance and direct combat roles. These include drones capable of attacking Russian targets and dropping explosive devices on enemy positions. In addition to drones, the support package includes radar systems to improve situational awareness and mine detection, and anti tank mines to strengthen Ukraine’s ground defence lines.

The types of drones to be delivered will come from both British and Ukrainian manufacturers, ensuring rapid availability and local compatibility. The joint support will also help cover the costs of repairing vehicles and maintaining existing military equipment on the front line.

The financial breakdown of the aid is summarised below:

Partners United Kingdom and Norway
Key Equipment Supplied Combat drones, radar systems, anti tank mines

Announced At Brussels defence summit chaired by UK and Germany

The announcement comes at a time when US President Donald Trump is reported to have voiced his displeasure to Vladimir Putin over the failure to secure a ceasefire. However, Trump has stopped short of offering new material aid to Ukraine, instead signalling continued reluctance for the US to deepen its involvement in European security. In contrast, the European coalition is pushing ahead with decisive actions to provide Ukraine with meaningful military support.

Ukraine’s Defence Minister stated that the upcoming discussions in Brussels would focus on strengthening Ukraine’s air defence systems, with hopes that political agreement can be reached on the delivery of advanced Patriot systems. These would provide much needed protection against Russian missile attacks and aerial threats.

The broader international coalition has pledged to support Ukraine not only during the war but also after it ends, by maintaining a secure sky and sea environment and helping to secure peace on land.
