Ukraine Destroys Russian Radar Systems Near Moscow (Video)

The Defence Intelligence of Ukraine (DIU) has confirmed the destruction of two advanced Russian radar systems in Dolgoprudny, a city near Moscow, on the night of February 6-7, 2025. These radar systems, part of the Valdai series, were designed to detect and neutralise unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in order to protect the airspace over Russia’s capital. The attack was carried out by explosives at a military unit, 52116, which is responsible for securing Moscow’s airspace.

The Valdai radar systems were touted as the latest in Russian military technology and had been deployed to counter aerial threats, particularly UAVs. The destruction of these systems marks a significant blow to Russia’s air defence capabilities, especially near its capital. The Valdai radar was the first of its kind to be adopted by Russia’s armed forces, making this operation a notable success for Ukraine.

The DIU’s statement also highlighted that the Valdai radar system’s purpose was to provide continuous detection and counteraction against UAVs, a vital tool in defending critical infrastructure, including airspace over Moscow. The radar’s destruction will likely impact Russia’s ability to monitor and respond to UAV activities in the region, weakening their air defences in the area.

Furthermore, on the night of February 11, Ukrainian forces caused significant damage to the Saratov Oil Refinery. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine also confirmed the destruction of other critical facilities in Russia, including the Volgograd refinery and the Astrakhan gas processing plant, further intensifying the pressure on Russian infrastructure amid the ongoing war.
