Ukraine Missile Attack on Rylsk, Kursk Kills Five and Injures Twelve

A missile strike by Ukraine on Russia’s city of Rylsk in the Kursk region resulted in five deaths and twelve injuries, as confirmed by local authorities on Saturday.

The attack occurred late on Friday, with initial reports suggesting six victims, including a child. However, the local governor, Alexander Khinshtein, clarified in a statement that the death toll stood at five, and no children were among the fatalities. While the report was revised, Khinshtein expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and to the residents of Rylsk, acknowledging the pain of the tragedy.

The strike also caused significant damage to the city, with nine facilities targeted, including social infrastructure and educational institutions. In addition, several low-rise and private buildings were damaged, and fifteen cars were burned. The local authorities have been working to address the aftermath of the attack, including extinguishing fires and restoring heating systems. Governor Khinshtein assured residents that efforts were underway to restore heat to homes by the morning.

Meanwhile, the Russian Defense Ministry reported a separate incident in which the city of Kazan, the capital of Tatarstan, was hit by a large-scale drone attack. The strike, which took place in three stages from different directions, reportedly set a multi-story residential building on fire and caused significant damage to other structures. Rustam Minnikhanov, the head of Tatarstan, condemned the attack, accusing Kyiv of targeting civilians. He pointed out that industrial sites had been targeted in the past, but this time, the attack directly impacted civilian areas.
