Ukraine’s Ports See 70% Cargo Growth in 2024

(Kyiv) – Ukrainian seaports processed 91.1 million tons of cargo in 2024, a 70% increase from the previous year.

Since the beginning of 2024, Ukraine’s seaports have handled 91.1 million tons of cargo, marking a 70% increase compared to the same period last year. According to Deputy Minister of Communities and Territories Development, Timur Tkachenko, the volume of goods processed from January to November reached 89.9 million tons, up from 52.8 million tons during the same period in 2023.

In November alone, Ukrainian ports processed 7.6 million tons of cargo, compared to 6.7 million tons in November 2023.

The main driver behind the significant increase has been the export of grain, with 56.1 million tons of grain handled by the ports from January to November. This is a substantial rise from 39.4 million tons during the same period last year. The second-largest category of cargo was ore, which saw an increase to 16.7 million tons compared to just 3.2 million tons in 2023.

A key factor in these impressive results has been the Ukrainian maritime corridor, which has been crucial for transporting goods. Since the beginning of the year, 73.4 million tons of cargo have passed through this corridor, and more than 3,000 vessels have used its routes.

The increase in cargo handling reflects a growing capacity in Ukraine’s seaport operations, despite the ongoing challenges faced by the country.
