Ukrainian forces have successfully destroyed two key Russian electronic warfare systems in a targeted drone operation, dealing a serious blow to the Kremlin’s battlefield communication efforts. The attack was carried out by multi rotor bomber drones belonging to the Tavria operational strategic group and took place in southern Ukraine, according to Operational Command South.
The operation targeted Russian Borisoglebsk 2 jamming systems, which are among the most advanced tools in Russia’s electronic warfare arsenal. The specific stations destroyed were believed to be R 934BMV jamming units, mounted on MT LBu armoured tracked vehicles known for their ability to manoeuvre across difficult terrain. The drones dropped at least two precision munitions, setting one of the vehicles on fire and damaging the other beyond use.
Reconnaissance drones first identified the enemy positions before strike drones were dispatched to carry out the attack. Although the exact location has not been revealed, video footage released by Ukrainian forces confirms the destruction of the stations and supports claims that both have been permanently neutralised or disabled for the foreseeable future.
The Borisoglebsk 2 system is built for tactical level disruption. Its primary role is to jam satellite communications, radio links, and navigation systems. Each Borisoglebsk 2 unit is composed of a control centre (R 330KMV) and multiple jamming stations, including the R 378BMV, R 934BMV, and R 325UMV. These components work together to jam frequencies and confuse enemy command systems.
Ukrainian defence forces have previously captured such systems. In September 2022, one R 934BMV station was seized in the Kharkiv region and studied for intelligence purposes. The system is operated by a four person crew and considered valuable because of its wide range of interference capabilities.
The estimated cost of a single Borisoglebsk 2 system is difficult to verify, but analysts suggest it can range from $10 million to $15 million (approximately £8 million to £12 million), depending on the configuration.
Estimated Value of Equipment Destroyed
Equipment | Estimated Cost (USD) | GBP Equivalent (approx.) |
---|---|---|
R 934BMV jamming station (each) | $3 million | £2.4 million |
Two destroyed stations total | $6 million | £4.8 million |
