The Defence Intelligence of Ukraine (DIU) has disclosed the staggering death toll of Russian mobilised soldiers during the ongoing war against Ukraine. According to the Ukrainian Defence Ministry, a total of 98,641 mobilised Russian soldiers have perished between September 2022 and October 2024. This figure does not include the losses of other categories of Russian military personnel, such as contract soldiers, mercenaries, and conscripts.
The DIU’s report paints a grim picture of Russia’s heavy casualties, revealing the sheer scale of the human cost behind Vladimir Putin’s illegal invasion of Ukraine. The report specifically highlights the loss of soldiers from various Russian military groupings operating on Ukrainian soil, with the highest casualties reported from the “Centre” and “West” groupings.
Russian Military Groupings’ Casualties
According to the Ukrainian Defence Intelligence, the losses of mobilised Russian soldiers were most significant in the following military groupings:
Russian Military Grouping | Number of Mobilised Russian Casualties |
---|---|
Centre | 21,710 |
West | 20,155 |
Vostok | 16,770 |
South | 16,465 |
Dnepr | 10,449 |
Zaporizhzhia | 10,120 |
North | 2,972 |
These figures highlight the devastating toll of the war on the Russian military, with the largest losses concentrated in the central and western regions of Ukraine, where the fiercest fighting has taken place. However, these figures only account for the mobilised soldiers and do not reflect the losses of regular Russian troops, such as contract soldiers, conscripts, or mercenaries who have also been sent to the frontlines in an attempt to prop up Putin’s failing war effort.
