Ukrainian Special Operations Forces have captured three Russian soldiers during a well-coordinated night raid on enemy positions. The mission was conducted by the elite 6th Separate Ranger Regiment, who infiltrated Russian lines with the support of aerial surveillance provided by an unmanned aerial vehicle. The drone tracked the layout of enemy defences and personnel, guiding the Ukrainian unit with precision.
Once the Ukrainian forces closed in undetected on a Russian dugout, a close combat skirmish broke out. Two Russian soldiers were killed during the exchange, and three others chose to surrender. Ukrainian troops reported no casualties of their own during the operation. The captured Russian servicemen were identified as being born in 1986, 1984, and 1991. They were interrogated shortly after their arrest and are now in the custody of Ukrainian authorities.
This latest raid highlights the growing strength and effectiveness of Ukraine’s Special Operations Forces, particularly the 6th Ranger Regiment, which has become known for its high risk cross border operations. The regiment previously conducted an assault in Russia’s Kursk region on 12 March 2025, successfully eliminating enemy positions. Earlier, on 7 March, the unit carried out a joint operation that targeted both Russian and North Korean forces in the same area. That mission resulted in the deaths of eight enemy combatants and the seizure of key documents and equipment.
In another successful mission, the Rangers cleared the village of Loknya in Ukraine’s Sumy region, just six kilometres from the Russian border. Ukrainian forces used close range tank fire to approach and overrun enemy positions, capturing a Russian infantry soldier in the process. The repeated success of such operations reveals a growing capability within Ukraine’s defence forces to carry out precision attacks deep into hostile territory while maintaining minimal casualties.
These raids demonstrate not only Ukraine’s determination but also a tactical advantage in close combat, aerial coordination, and psychological operations.
