Ukrainian forces continue to expand their use of advanced combat technology, with the Velykyi Luh Brigade now deploying the Gnom ground drone. This remote-controlled platform, developed by the Ukrainian company EMERLAND, is designed for fire support and ground operations. It is equipped with two RPG-7s armed with 40 mm OG-7V high explosive fragmentation rounds, making it highly effective against infantry.
Recent images from the 65th Separate Mechanized Brigade show the Gnom drone undergoing tests. The explosive fragmentation warheads create an optimal field of destruction, significantly increasing battlefield effectiveness. In addition to its rocket-propelled grenade system, the Gnom is fitted with a 7.62 mm PKM machine gun for further defence and targeting of enemy forces.
EMERLAND has designed the drone to be highly versatile. Alongside its primary armaments, the Gnom can be modified to carry and deploy mines, making it an adaptable tool for both offensive and defensive operations. The drone’s ability to transport supplies and lay anti-personnel mines enhances its strategic value on the battlefield.
Developers state that the Gnom drone improves non-contact combat operations by allowing remote control, reducing risks to soldiers. With a payload capacity of 40 kg and an operational range of up to 2000 metres, it can function effectively under combat conditions. Its design also includes protections against electronic warfare, ensuring reliability in high-intensity environments.
Ukraine has been expanding its use of robotic combat platforms, including previous tests of TEMERLAND’s Solomandra system, which was developed for demining operations.
