Demonstrations are set to take place across the world this weekend to protest against Russia’s ongoing war in Ukraine and denounce recent statements by United States President Donald Trump that are seen as undermining support for Kyiv. The rallies, organised ahead of the three-year anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion, are expected to draw thousands of participants expressing solidarity with Ukraine.
One of the most significant demonstrations will occur in Washington DC, where protesters will gather at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool at 1:30 pm. The march will proceed to the residence of the Russian ambassador, where it is scheduled to conclude around 3:30 pm. Nadiya Shaporynska, one of the organisers, emphasised the importance of United States support in ensuring global security. She described the rally as an expression of solidarity between Ukraine and the American people. The event has been organised in cooperation with the Embassy of Ukraine in the United States and the Honorary Consulate of Ukraine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
A major pro-Ukrainian demonstration is also planned in Canada, under the name “Toronto’s Global Action Event – Stand With Ukraine – 3rd Anniversary.” The event, scheduled for Sunday at 3 pm, will form part of a worldwide movement taking place across 587 cities in 72 countries. Organisers issued a statement stressing the need for continued global support for Ukraine, urging participants to carry the truth about Russia’s invasion to the world.
Other rallies are planned in various cities across Europe, North America, and Australia. In London, a recent protest outside the Russian embassy drew thousands of demonstrators demanding renewed solidarity with Ukraine. The participants voiced concerns over shifting policies in Western countries, particularly in light of statements made by President Trump, which have been widely perceived as a betrayal of Ukraine. The former president’s remarks have raised alarm among Ukrainian supporters, as well as among many European leaders, who fear a potential weakening of US commitment to Ukraine’s defence.
The global protests come at a critical time, as Ukraine continues to defend its sovereignty against Russia’s aggression. With the war entering its third year, Ukrainian forces remain engaged in intense battles on multiple fronts. Western military and financial assistance has been instrumental in allowing Ukraine to resist, and any reduction in support could have serious consequences on the battlefield.
Recent political developments in the United States have added to concerns. President Trump’s statements regarding Ukraine have been interpreted as a potential signal of reduced American support, sparking outrage among both Ukrainian activists and international allies. Many view his remarks as emboldening the Kremlin, which has shown no signs of relenting in its brutal campaign.
