Ukrainian Elite Forces Crush Russian Troops in Pokrovsk Industrial Raid
Ukrainian Special Forces launched a decisive assault against Russian troops entrenched in the Kotlyne industrial zone near Pokrovsk, dealing a severe blow to Russian flanking operations in the region. The raid, prepared over several weeks, was aimed at eliminating Russian forces occupying key tactical positions within the industrial complex. By striking swiftly and effectively, Ukrainian forces disrupted Russian efforts to advance from the western flank, creating further instability within enemy ranks.
The operation was carried out with precision as Ukrainian commanders identified the threat posed by Russian troops who were not fully encircled but still capable of launching attacks from behind Ukrainian lines. Allowing them to remain in Kotlyne would have enabled Russian forces to reinforce their positions and stage new offensives. Clearing the industrial area ensured that Ukraine could focus entirely on repelling Russian advances without the risk of attacks from multiple directions.
The Russian troops in Kotlyne were already suffering from limited supplies. Ukrainian pressure accelerated their depletion of food and ammunition, as the only available Russian supply route ran along a railway line shielded by a thin tree belt. While this route provided some cover, it was not sufficient to maintain prolonged resistance against continuous Ukrainian strikes. Unlike their Russian adversaries, Ukrainian troops had a hardened road from Ukrainian-controlled territory, allowing for secure resupply and efficient troop movements. Additionally, Kotlyne was outside the effective range of Russian artillery and drone surveillance, giving Ukrainian forces a tactical advantage.
Given the challenges of urban warfare, Ukrainian commanders opted for a surgical approach, deploying elite forces to conduct a carefully planned operation instead of launching a high-risk full-scale assault. Using drone reconnaissance, Ukrainian forces located a large group of Russian soldiers inside a multi-story industrial building. Recognizing the opportunity to neutralise a major stronghold, a Special Forces team was deployed to storm the site before Russian troops could reorganise.
Footage from the battle, verified by military analysts, shows Ukrainian forces launching a surprise attack on the fortified Russian position. A fierce close-quarters battle ensued, with intense fighting as Ukrainian soldiers advanced room by room, eliminating enemy resistance. The Russian garrison suffered heavy losses, with at least 25 soldiers reported killed. After securing control of the buildings, Ukrainian troops held their positions for two days.
A Russian counterattack later resulted in a fire breaking out inside the building where Ukrainian forces had taken position. As thick smoke spread and visibility decreased, Ukrainian forces quickly recognised the need to withdraw to avoid unnecessary casualties. Organising a tactical extraction, they successfully evacuated the site, having achieved their primary objectives of dismantling the Russian presence and disrupting enemy supply lines.
