(Kyiv) – The Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) is facing a critical situation after enemy shelling severed one of the two power lines connecting it to Ukraine’s energy grid. The plant now relies solely on one remaining line, with repairs delayed due to ongoing security threats, according to Ukraine’s Ministry of Energy.
The Ministry announced on social media that the attack has left the ZNPP precariously operating on just one connection to the unified energy system. Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko emphasized that the plant’s safe operation can only be ensured under Ukrainian control.
Power engineers are on standby to restore the damaged line as soon as the security situation allows. Until then, the risk of a blackout looms large over the facility, heightening concerns about its operational safety and the potential for wider repercussions.
This is not the first time the ZNPP has faced such challenges. In November, similar attacks disrupted one of its power lines on three separate occasions. The repeated targeting of the nuclear facility underscores the ongoing volatility in the region and the risks posed to critical infrastructure during the conflict.
