Zelenskyy Clarifies US Aid to Ukraine at $75 Billion, Not $177 Billion

(Kyiv) – President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has addressed claims regarding the amount of aid Ukraine has received from the United States, stating that the real figure is over $75 billion, not the inflated $177 billion or $200 billion reported by some sources. Zelenskyy clarified these figures during an interview with The Associated Press on February 2, 2025, as part of ongoing discussions about the international support Ukraine has been receiving.

Zelenskyy emphasised that the majority of the aid from the US came in the form of military assistance rather than cash. “I heard that America gave Ukraine $177 billion. As the President of a country at war, I say that we have received more than $75 billion,” he said. “This means we’ve never received $100 billion of the $177 billion, or even $200 billion, as some have claimed.”

The Ukrainian President further explained that while there are various support programmes such as education, training, transportation, and humanitarian aid, they are separate from the military assistance package. Zelenskyy pointed out that the $200 billion claims do not accurately reflect the actual military support Ukraine has received, as the amount is overblown.

He added that Ukraine had also received aid for energy and medical support, amounting to around $300-400 million, which includes $200 million for energy assistance and $100 million for medical needs. These figures, according to Zelenskyy, are separate from the primary military aid.

While the claims regarding the overall $177 billion in US aid were misleading, Zelenskyy clarified that the support received from the US remains significant, and Ukraine is grateful for it. He mentioned that, while part of the aid was still pending, military assistance had not stopped, despite a temporary pause in non-military support in late 2024.
